Our Story

Industrial Defender was founded in 2006, with roots that stretch back even further. The technology behind our platform was first developed in 2002 at Verano and came to market in 2004 as one of the first purpose-built cybersecurity solutions for industrial control systems. When enterprise SIEMs were too IT-centric to function effectively in industrial control environments, Industrial Defender helped pioneer the field of industrial automation cybersecurity, years ahead of “OT security” gaining widespread recognition.

Purpose-Built for Industrial Operations

From the beginning, we focused on the realities of industrial operations: systems that must stay online, environments that cannot tolerate disruption, and security teams that need deep visibility without risk to production. Our early industrial SIEM became the foundation for a broader vision, delivering the most comprehensive OT asset data to strengthen cybersecurity and compliance across critical infrastructure. As operators sought greater insight into configurations, firmware, and software within their plants and facilities, Industrial Defender evolved to collect that information safely and with unmatched depth.

U.S.-Owned and Operated, Focused on OT Security

After several years operating as part of larger technology organizations, we re-emerged in 2020 as an independent, U.S.-owned company—reaffirming our commitment to solving the unique challenges of OT cybersecurity. From our headquarters and development center just outside Boston, Massachusetts, our team continues to innovate for the industrial community we’ve always served.

From OT Asset Intelligence to Security and Compliance

Today, Industrial Defender provides an integrated suite of OT cybersecurity and compliance capabilities that begins with deep asset intelligence and extends through configuration and change management, vulnerability management, and security monitoring—including IDS, log/event, and firewall analysis. These capabilities have made us a trusted partner for organizations governed by NERC CIP and for those aligning with frameworks such as NIS2, IEC 62443, AESCSF, TSA Pipeline Security Directives, and the Saudi OTCC. Our platform’s reporting and evidence-retention features have set the standard for compliance automation across critical infrastructure sectors.

Our Belief: Protecting Critical Infrastructure Through OT Security

We believe that effective OT cybersecurity and compliance begin with truth—a complete, accurate, and continuously updated understanding of every system in your operational environment. That foundation is essential not just for meeting regulatory obligations, but for protecting the infrastructure that powers our world. Every capability we build, from asset discovery to monitoring and reporting, supports a single mission: to help operators safeguard the reliability, safety, and resilience of the critical systems that society depends on every day.
